The biomechanical function of the palmar stay in any wrist support brace is to restrict wrist motion while holding the wrist in a position of function. Wrist extension of between 10° and 30° is considered to maximize a patient’s ability to perform daily functions. By stabilizing the wrist using a palmar stay, the bones are able to align properly to heal, the entire wrist is given ample support, and full flexibility is given to the injured area for therapy exercise to ensure that the wrist heals with its maximum ability to move.
